Congratulations to the New Orleans Saints for their victory over the Indianapolis Colts in the Super Bowl. After the ravages of Katrina (and not everyone has recovered from that tragedy), New Orleans deserves something uplifting and enjoyable. The Patriots won the first Super Bowl a few months after the 9/11 attacks. Sure, it’s only a diversion, some people have a real issue with watching sports, rooting for teams, et al but let me tell you—after all the shit that happened post-9/11, anything that brought people any sort of joy or good feeling shouldn’t be underestimated or dismissed.

Of course, there was the controversy of the Focus On The Family-sponsored ad during the game that featured Florida QB Tim Tebow (a hardcore Christian) and his mother presenting a rather thinly-disguised anti-choice message. That was soft-pedaled in the ad itself but viewers were urged to go to Focus’s website for more info. I didn’t bother... why ruin the day? But you can probably pick out the songs inspired by the ad and other matters of “faith.” What else is new!
