JUNE 30, 2009
Back
to doing the show on a Monday though not under the best conditions. Not to
whine about my problems but the hose on my washing machine came loose last week
and you can only imagine what happened. Water, water everywhere although not
anywhere near as bad as in ’06. But I did get some water on part of the carpet
and it’s been somewhat futile to get it completely dry. But, even with
furniture shifted around and having to work around things to prep the show,
here you are.
Hey,
it could be worse. I could be Michael Jackson. Or Farrah Fawcett. Or Sky Saxon
from the Seeds. All three of these people died last Thursday but, of course,
the “King Of Pop” was the dominant story. 24/7 coverage on the cable news
networks, at least for the first few days and I had to turn it off. Truth be
told, I’ve never liked his music, from the Jackson 5 through his solo stuff. He
was an oddity, a freak show albeit a talented one.
That’s
enough about Michael. This week’s show is dedicated to Mr. Saxon and tribute is
paid by playing the band’s best-known hit plus a couple of cover versions. And
R.I.P. Farrah, as well. Yep, I was one of those teenage boys who had the
classic poster tacked up on my wall although I did have more of a thing for
Kate Jackson...
And,
of course, the main thrust of this week’s show is the annual Salute to
America... a celebration of Independence Day from a punk rock perspective.
Enjoy!
